Hi, from Peter, a new owner of a 1985 Holland 25 currently on a swing mooring at Mornington in front of the yacht club.
Its a bit of a mess from the time I took possession at the end of October last year. Left abandoned on the mooring for 4 years it had become a bit of a mussel farm.
I managed to acquire it from the owner just as the lock downs in Victoria came to an end and as a result the high demand for trade yacht services far exceeded the ability to supply.
I just got it out of the water last week, (March 2021), and have managed to clean the hull ready for repairs and antifoul.
New battery and some tinkering had the original 1985 Volvo Penta chugging along. Pulled the prop from the Volvo leg and transmission fluid poured our crystal clear, no water or debris. Unbelievable! I have missed a bullet with the engine and leg. Will clean up the exterior of the leg and change anode, fluids and should be good to go.
The hull is basically unblemished, no blisters or serious osmosis, which impressed the yard manager. All the through hull fittings are almost as new, made from high quality brass so this Holland 25 had been built with quality in mind, not budget.
I plan to sail it mainly by myself to get my skills up to take on a bigger blue water vessel in the future.
With that in mind I will be installing a Muir 12v windlass, refurbishing the rigging which is VERY worn, keep the current sail plan but adjust to suit being single handed.
I want to put a bow roller on the bow with a new Rocna anchor or similar. I have a PROFURL furler attached to the current bow cap but will have to manage to attach it to the new bow roller without inhibiting the windlass..
If any members of the forum have experience or ideas with this please drop me a line.
I have noticed Brent the owner of Apple Slice II has modified his boat to this arrangement and I hope to talk to him in the future about this and his stern Targa frame.
Apart from that I will try and keep it low key repairing and refurbishing as much as I can such as the fridge motor, toilet, interior soft coverings.
The wiring is not very good due to corrosion , I am going to pull as much of it as I can and replace it with high end marine grade.
Any way, thats where I am at the moment, aiming for April some time to get everything I have discussed done and hopefully there will be some nice weather left.
