What type of anchors are other Holland 25 owners using? And more importantly, where are anchors being stowed? There is no bow roller or anchor locker on my boat. Can a bow roller be fitted?

I have a bow roller I'm going to fit on right side of front stay with chair/rope locker on left half of front deck. I've also seen a Holland with full width locker but not inside it. they are not big enough for anchor though.
I have a reasonable sized Danforth Sand anchor and a 9kg Plough. I'll be leaving the plough in the bow roller.
I also have a drogue big enough for an 8m yacht too.

Colin, Does the locker have a cover? If not, what happens to water that enters? Was this photo taken while your toe rails were removed? If so could you post a photo of the completed mods once you have finished? Thanks for your advice so far.

Hi Shasp Yes locker does have a cover with lock and hinges. Locker is full width too below deck so fair volume but not long. There is a drain that emptiers any water in locker out a hole just to port side of the front. Photo was taken with toerails off while topsides painted, deck repaired and painted. Toerails back on now (big job) and painted too. Here is photo before work started. Attachments:

Nice one, looks good. Could you give any more details as to how it was constructed and what materials were used? If possible could you post a photo of the anchor on it's roller. Will you always store your anchor on the roller ie is it clear of the jib?

The locker is standard on most Hollands I have seen! It is a bulkhead from deck to shelf in V-berth. There is a centre strength beam that you don't want to cut. You can see the inside, looking to starboard, of the locker and beam (showing fatigue splits where front cleat bolts through) in the photo attached. Attachments:

Bow roller yet to be installed but will be on other side of furler once I cut off brass tab of bow point cover, but this photo should give you an idea. Will then leave anchor there ready to be deployed with ease. Attachments:

Here is a view of the back of the locker that meets the shelf going around our V-berth. Notice beam above and strengthener across back of locker. Should be easy enough to add bulkhead into bow, if not there already, cut out deck hatch and drill drain hole through hull into locker you create. Attachments:

Thanks for all the info. Mine is the first H25 I've seen so have never seen a locker fitted. Looks like a reasonably involved job with a lot of cutting and rebuilding of the bow and like you said, without weakening the area. Over to the drawing board...

Hello. My H25 'Impala' doesn't have an anchor locker. I can see the obvious advantage in creating one, but I've decided to leave it as it is for the time being.
I want to get to know this boat extremely well before I make any structural changes such as building a new locker. I'm also concious of the extra weight that would sit on the bow with the anchor and chain, and how that might affect the performance of the boat.
So... I've decided to leave things as they are for the time being. Cheers.

My H25 'Virage III' has an anchor and full width locker which is just big enough to store the anchor, chain & rope. I can take the anchor out easily, but for some reason, it is always very tight and tricky when installing it. Bow roller is located at the front of forstay (there is no furler). I don't think there is a 'drain', I must check. I'll take some photos of this area next time and post it.

Here is a more recent photo of Mystique's anchor setup. Talking with Doug, Ron Holland didn't like anchors in the nose or weight in the bow lazarette (if you have one) as the weight in the ends affects racing performance. You're not allowed to race with an overhanging anchor anyway ! Attachments:
