Hi All, I have just joined this forum. I have owned a Holland 25 for around three and a half years. My H25 has a Vire 7, inboard petrol engine, and it DOES have an anchor. Still learning about sailing and the boat. Love to see other H25s

Welcome Virage Hope you can link up with other local H25 owners. What area are you and your yacht based? Colin

Hi Colin, My yacht (Virage) is based in Pitthingyer, NSW. mmm... Why P-I-T-T-W-A-T-E-R automatically change to 'Pitthingyer'?

Hi! I commissioned Doug Sharpin to build me a new H25 in 1978. I called her Apple Slice (given that the Irish Admiral's cup team had Big Apple , with an apple on the transom missing a quarter. Due to having small kids, I chose to fit a Porta Potti instead of extra through-hulls, but apart from that she was pretty standard Doug delivered the yacht to me in Adelaide, and I was very kindly assisted with mast stepping and motoring around to the Small Boat Club mooring by Morrie Hoy, who ran the ex-Sydney Harbour ferry as a showboat from Port Adelaide and also owned an H25. Another owner was Ken Banwell, the rigger at North Sails Adelaide. He fitted out his H25 "Pippin" interior from a bare moulding and it was beautiful. Later on an H25+4 turned up, called "Toffee Apple", while I think the Port Lincoln based H25 was called "Magic Apple" (See a pattern emerging here? I raced Apple Slice initially in the Small Boat club fleet, but in due course raced with the RSAYS in their offshore (nearly overnight) race series. At about this time I co-founded JOGSA and we measured quite a few different yachts. As mine was a standard masthead H25 (with beautiful sails made by Norths Melbourne) it was a legit 1/4 tonner, and its JOG rating came out at 18.2. My proudest moment happened at about 1am one night, when we approach a turning mark, and the Farr 40 Dynamite II was coming back from it. To a man, the whole crew looked at their watches, because we were out-performing them on an IOR basis! Eventually, after some 5,500 nm under her keel, I participated in the Adelaide-Pt.Lincoln race, along with Ken Banwell. Both of us had optimised rigs due to keen competition between the two North lofts LOL. Well we had an awesome race, including a 9 1/2 hour spinnaker run up from Haystack Island vicinity, and I crossed the line just 50 yards ahead of him, both of us having sore necks from looking over our shoulders! But the sneaky bugger had moved his forestay in under an inch, to achieve a JOG rating of 18.1, so he "pipped" me under JOG! We covered around 150nm in just under 24 hours, which is not hanging around in a 25 foot inboard keelboat. He then went cruising while I competed against the other H25 in Pt. Lincoln Week (and got done like a dinner) Unfortunately my boss transferred me to Sydney, so the yacht had to find a new owner, but I sure do miss it.

AppleSlice, I live in Adelaide and my boat Omega had some old lifejackets (looked like kids sizes) with Pippin written on them. I purchased through Maurice Drent at North Haven but never met the owners. The poor ole girl was in a run down state and had not been used for a long time when I bought her. Please to say she is in good hands now and will have lots of new equipment/rigging etc fitted prior to this summer. Omega is my first keel boat and will be using her to teach my wife and young son to sail. Will race and cruise out of the new Adelaide Marina in the Port River with the Port Adelaide Sailing Club. I have sailed in the Port Lincoln regatta week you speak of and am pleased to hear that she will happily sail the Adelaide to Lincoln race.
Would love anything else you could tell me about my boat, if indeed it is ex-Pippin. ;D

Hi Sharsp, You will be able to tell if you have ex-Pippin, as Pippin has an all timber interior rather than the standard glassfibre bunks, sink etc. Also, the bunks are narrower than standard, meaning that the floor is widerr by about 6-8 inches (from memory. If it is Pippin, it was bought and fitted out by Ken Banwell, who was the rigging guy at North Sails, Adelaide in the late 70s.
Have you seen Apple Slice? You wouldn't mistake her if she is still in original colour scheme (posting photos in the otherr thread)

Hi everyone I have just joined. I am currently looking at buy an H25 trailer sailer version currently in Gladstone but from Hervey Bay before that. It is on a tri axle trailer in good shape and from the photos the boat looks in reasonable shape. Also it must have had some engine problems as it now has a new 12 hp Volvo fitted. Ifr anyone has some info on the trailer sailer version I would love to talk and will check the page each day. I currently race a Tasar and sail a Hartley 16 "Shiraz"Thanks and cheers John Hope to be sitting in the thingypit soon.

John there is a member who had a trailer sailer version and loved it - was in RMYC (I think).
Regards towing it, it is actually too wide to tow according to VicRoads but you'd need to check with your State Authority - Usually 8" 2.4m is maximum but it may be allowed during daylight only. I had my Hollandtrucked from Melbourne to Paynesville, Vic and even he could only travel during daylight hours with WIDE LOAD warning signs front and back!
Worth checking out before buying and either using it as a bargaining item or bowing out. I'd love to have it here as our Lake can be shallow and deep keel could get hung up :-( , still too much work done on Mystique to back out now!
Best of luck and please let forum know what you find out and WELCOME.
Colin

Hello Holland 25 owners. I'm pretty keen on becoming the proud owner of my own H25. I've been trying to find history on vessels much like yourselves. I'm looking at one with the HIN 1610200. Can anyone help me with its back story.
